Bios of Board Directors Appointed June 2018

Click a name to directly view that director's bio:   David Osterman   Dave Talaber

David Osterman has been an OLLI member since 2010 and for the last two years has served as the Chair of the OLLI Finance Committee. David moved to the Washington area in 1978 after working for the City of New York for six years, where he assisted in managing the City’s employment and training programs. After moving to Washington, he worked in various management positions (mainly budgeting and strategic planning) for the Environmental Protection Agency until he retired in 2007.

Currently, David and his wife spend about two days a week taking care of his beautiful and magical granddaughter. During the winter he volunteers with Fairfax County’s Volunteers In Tax Assistance Program preparing tax returns for low income individuals and families.

David is a big believer in the need for exercise and spends a lot of time bicycling indoors and out and weight lifting in the gym.

Dave Talaber joined OLLI in 2014. Since then he has enjoyed not only the satisfaction of being able to take many and varied courses and events but also and more importantly, he believes, the fellowship of his wonderful OLLI contemporaries.

Dave is a native of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and attended Madison College (now James Madison University), where he met and married his best friend, Angie – now also an OLLI member. Dave had a varied career before retiring from first the U.S. Army and later the Federal Government in the fields of administration, employee compensation and benefits, and human resources, which included nine years of assignments in Germany. He retired in 2013 after more than 35 years of service.

Dave and Angie live at Westminster at Lake Ridge, a retirement community in nearby Woodbridge, an area in which they have enjoyed living for more than 30 years. They have two children and four grandchildren, all of whom live in Northern Virginia.

Since joining OLLI, Dave has served as an office volunteer, co-coordinated the OLLI Photograpy Club, and most recently joined the Strategic Planning Committee.

He strongly believes in the future of OLLI as a valuable resource for all the ethnically and diverse senior populations of Northern Virginia. Dave says, "We must do our best to maintain all of what we love about today’s OLLI while at the same time managing our inevitable growth in the future."
